Arrival via Athene
How to get to the camper ??
Arrival at Athens Airport.
Most of our clients spend the first day in Aegina, relax, tour the island and get used to the camper. There are no campings on Aegina but free camping is no problem. Aegina details as well as ferry schedules, weather forecasts and lots of other info on www.aeginagreece.com.
The following day by ferry (40 min) to Methana on the Peloponese. You are then approx. 1 hour from Epidavros (theater) where many spend the night either at 1 of the 6 or so beach front campings or in the yacht harbor area.
If you are planning to stay on mainland Greece or go on to the islands we may be able to deliver the camper to the airport. There is an extra cost associated with this, usually between 75 and 100 euro depending on the size of the camper. This must be arranged in advance as we have very few staff indeed.
RETURN !
You may have an early return flight. Hotels near the airport are expensive and few.
An option is to stay with the camper at the longterm parking lot and leave the camper there. Again this must be arranged in advance and is subject to the extra costs.
Security deposits will be returned within 5 working days.
GETTING AROUND ON ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE DAYS.
Arrival, going to Aegina. Please let us know your arrival time in advance so that we have an idea when to expect you. There is an expresbus (X96) right outside the arrivals hall. Buy a ticket (5.00/p.p.) at the kiosk. Buses go every 20 minutes or so. Be careful on the bus, there have been incidences of pickpockets on the buses and public transportation in general.
Arriving in Piraeus you'll see the harbor and the ferries, that is your bus stop. If you miss the stop, the next one is around the corner just 200 meters away. Walk across the street to the ferries or hydrofoil (Flying Dolphins). Buy ticket on next departure, ferries 7.50 - 11 euro, dolphins 12/15 euro.
By Taxi. Athens taxi drivers have a reputation for cheating! Your trip from the airport to the Aegina ferry should cost you between 40 and 45 euro. Agree on the price before you get into the cab.
You may either at the beginning or at the end of your trip decide to stay a day or so in Athens to see the sights. Although there are 2 campings just outside Athens with public transportation connections this is not very practical. By camper staying in Athens is not recommended. Far easier is to book a hotel in Monasteraki or Plaka areas near the Acropolis and spend a night there at the beginning or end of the trip. Remember, rates are often negotiable. There are expresbusses also to and from downtown Athens .
Return to the airport.
From Aegina. Go to the main exit gate and cross the street. Just on your right is a small ticket kiosk where bus tickets for the airport are sold (5.00/p.p.) Busses usually run every 20 min.
If you have arranged to leave the camper at the airport go to parking lot P3, long term and leave the parking ticket and keys in an agreed upon place.
